Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction: Persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) was first described by Gersony et al 1 of persistence of the fetal circulation in 1969. It is a clinical syndrome characterized by respiratory distress, hypoxemia, elevated pulmonary vascular resistance and a right to left shunting of venous blood across the foramen ovale and/or ductus arteriosus. The etiology of PPHN is not completely understood. Basically, the pulmonary vascular resistance may remain elevated due to prenatal pathology or postnatal events which interfer with the normal circulatory transition from fetal to extrauterine life. Nowadays, the clinician is still faced daily with the difficulty of caring for PPHN, and this syndrome continues to cause significant morbidity and mortality.

Prevalence of Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn and Associated Factors in Term Neonates Born in Southeast of Iran, 2020
Background and purpose: Infants with persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN) are readmitted to hospital three times more than other infants or die after discharge. The disease imposes a high cost on families and health systems. In this study, for the first time, the prevalence of PPHN and associated factors were investigated in mature neonates born in southeast of Iran. Materials and methods...
متن کاملVein of Galen Aneurysmal Malformation and High-output Cardiac Failure in a Newborn
Background: Vein of Galen aneurysm (VGA) is the most common form of symptomatic cerebrovascular malformation in neonates. It develops in a fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy due to unknown reasons, but it is likely to have a genetic etiology. The prognosis of VGA is usually poor, particularly in newborns with heart failure due to high-flow intracerebral shunt. Surgery and endovascular em...
متن کاملPersistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn associated with pulmonary atresia and intact interventricular septum.
Neonates with pulmonary atresia and intact interventricular septum (PAIVS) do not have pulmonary vascular disease secondary to their heart abnormality. Persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn has not been described in association with this condition. The case is reported of a female neonate born with PAIVS, who preoperatively had no clinical evidence or any risk factors for persistent ...

متن کاملA Rare Cause of Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension Resistant to Therapy in The Newborn: Short-Rib Polydactyly Syndrome
Short-rib polydactyly syndrome is an autosomal recessively inherited lethal skeletal dysplasia. The syndrome is characterized by marked narrow fetal thorax, short extremities, micromelia, cleft palate/lip, polydactyly, cardiac and renal abnormalities, and genital malformations. In cases with pulmonary hypoplasia, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn can develop. In this paper, we pr...
متن کاملSevere persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn and dysmorphic features in neonate with a deletion involving TWIST1 and PHF14: a case report
BACKGROUND Persistent pulmonary hypertension is a well-known disease of the newborn that in most cases responds well to treatment with nitric oxide and treatment of any underlying causes. Genetic causes of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn are rare. The TWIST1 gene is involved in morphogenetics, and deletions are known to cause Saethre-Chotzen syndrome. Deletions of PHF14 have ne...
